Three Verot Seniors Named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholars
Friday, October 10, 2008 (Fort Myers, FL) Bishop Verot Catholic High School announced today that seniors Meredith Gunder, Hillary Gunder and Sean Quinn were named Commended Students in the 54th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Meredith and Hillary Gunder are the daughters of Dr. and Mrs. Roger Gunder of Fort Myers. Sean Quinn is the son of Mr. James Quinn and Dr. Charlene Okomski of Punta Gorda.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2009 competition by take the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
A spokesperson for the NMSC commented, "The young people named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding academic potential by their strong performance in this highly competitive program. We hope that this recognition will enhance their educational opportunities and that they will continue to diligently pursue their professional goals."
Since 1998, Bishop Verot Catholic High School has had 47 Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program along with 24 National Merit Finalists. We again congratulate Meredith, Hillary and Sean on their academic achievements.
