Bishop Verot students participate in Model United Nations Conference
Thursday, March 5, 2009 (Fort Myers, FL) For the last seven months members of Bishop Verot's Model United Nations Club has been busy preparing for their yearly conference at FGCU. Sixteen Bishop Verot students are attending the two-day conference focusing on their research on topics of global interest. From combating the international energy crisis through renewable energy technologies to the international criminal court and the Sudan, students will practice the diplomatic art of negotiations and compromise in maintaining their defense position.
The local Model UN chapter was founded in 1989 as part of a Educational Outreach of the Naples Council on World Affairs. The club aims to teach negotiating, bargaining and communications skills; represent a foreign perspective in a disciplined forum; enhance awareness and inform students on critical global issues; and acquaint students with the workings of the United Nations.
Bishop Verot will represent the countries of Belgium, Canada, Peru and Rwanda over the course of the two-day conference.
