Marine Biology students visit Lake Gill
Mr. Pino's marine biology students took a field trip to Lake Gill (the lake behind St. Cecilia) to conduct basic oceanographic/marine field techniques. The students first identified their location using a hand held GPS then they took the temperature, salinity, visibility, and water samples from the lake. The water samples will be used in a later lab to investigate the different dissolved solutes that are found in the lake. The samples will be compared to other water samples taken from various locations to investigate and compare the different pollution levels of each of the water samples. Also this week marks the beginning of fish tank week. During this week students are introduced to basic aquarium care skills, and we will begin to build and maintain their aquariums.
