| Established in April 2008, the Dick Stahl Scholarship Fund was created by several Bishop Verot Alumni after the death of former Bishop Verot teacher and Coach Dick Stahl who taught history at BVHS for nearly 30 years. Dick influenced many lives starting in the early 1960’s at St. Francis Xavier School and later at Bishop Verot. He is the person who encouraged us to be successful and hard working.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a financially deserving Bishop Verot Catholic High School student in the name of Dick Stahl. The Scholarship funds are to be used to pay a portion of the Bishop Verot tuition on behalf of the recipient. The Principal, in conjunction with the Financial Aid Committee and an alumni appointed by the Director of Alumni Relations, shall choose the scholarship recipient. Recipients should be graduates from St. Francis Grade School and should have attended St. Francis Grade School for a minimum of five (5) years. If there are no qualifying recipients entering Bishop Verot from St. Francis, recipients from other parochial institutions will be evaluated. The recipient must also demonstrate the need for tuition assistance.
Recipients must be in good academic standing and shall demonstrate their commitment to Bishop Verot by clearly embracing the School’s tenants of Faith, Community and Service in their daily life. The recipient will forfeit the award if his/her GPA falls below a 2.33 GPA on a 4.0 scale or for serious behavioral indiscretions.
Five percent (5%) of the principle in the Dick Stahl Scholarship Fund will be awarded annually thereby keeping the fund in perpetuity. The scholarship funds may only be used to pay a portion of the tuition for a student to attend Bishop Verot Catholic High School. The award will be granted annually to a deserving student. The Scholarship funds may supplement more than one student’s tuition in a given academic year. However, the same student may not receive the award for more than four (4) years.
