Academics
Bishop Verot Catholic High School curriculum consists of the state required courses for graduation, along with Religious Studies and a wide range of electives. Course work is offered in standard college prep, honors, and Advanced Placement (AP) instruction. Dual enrollment courses are available through Edison Community College and Florida Gulf Coast University.
Placement for required courses is based on the student's history of achievement, grades, and teacher recommendations. Electives are selected by the student based on their level of interest and skill, and openings in the class.
Special learning needs are met with services provided by our Learning Resource Program. This program provides assistance and support to students with diagnosed learning disabilities.

Graduation Requirements
Students are required to take at least six classes per day, a total of 24 credits in four years, in order to meet the minimum graduation requirements for the State of Florida. Students have the opportunity to take one additional class each day, and they can graduate with up to 28 credits. Typically, Verot students earn more credits than the minimum required for graduation. Grading, Honor Rolls, and Class Ranking
The numerical grade equivalents used in determining the grade for each class are as follows:

The final grade for each semester course will be determined by averaging the two quarter grades and the final exam grade. Each quarter will be worth two-fifths and the final exam grade will be worth one-fifth.
All courses offered at BVHS are counted in computing cumulative grade point averages and honor rolls. Students may take approved college level courses, off campus, but they will not count towards GPA. EXCEPTION 1: General policy dictates that courses NOT TAKEN at BVHS will NOT COUNT toward GPA unless prior approval has been received from the Administration. For students who transfer into BVHS, all courses will count towards their GPA and the BVHS method for determining GPA will be applied. EXCEPTION 2: Students can take up to 4 total credits of Weight Training during their 4 years of high school. Of the 4 credits, 1/2 credit only can be earned during the summer program.

Honor Rolls
After each quarter, students are awarded honors by achieving the following levels of academic excellence:
Principal’s List: 4.25 or above
First Honors: 4.00 – 4.24
Second Honors: 3.75 – 3.99
Class Ranking
A class ranking system is used soley for the purpose of reporting information to colleges that request a rank. Ranking is based on each student's weighted, cumulative GPA after completing seven semesters of high school. The rank will be reported to colleges as a percentile, within increments of 5%.
Graduate Academic Honors
General Honors will be awarded to graduating seniors at Commencement. Degrees will be awarded summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude according to the following weighted cumulative grade point averages that are calculated at the end of the seventh semester:
Summa Cum Laude 4.25 and above
Magna Cum Laude 4.00 – 4.24
Cum Laude 3.75 – 3.99
Tutorial
Teachers are available for tutoring in their classrooms Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. National Honor Society students also provide free tutoring. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these tutoring services.
