Cecilia Hughes Smith Library

The Cecilia Hughes Smith Library was renovated through the kind donation of Mr. Robb Smith. This new state-of-the-art facility was dedicated to his mother as a tribute to her love as a mother and service as a nurse, teacher and school librarian in Louisville, Kentucky.
The library maintains 20 computers equipped with WINDOWS 2000 (connected to the Internet by a T-line), and Search Plus (the catalog of the books, VHS tapes and magazines housed in the library). The computers are wired to the Internet and are filtered for content. Three printers, two black and white and one color printer/scanner, are also available for student use.
The library houses more than 13,200 books. Many of these titles have been newly acquired so that the copyright date is current. Adding to this collection is an on-going process. A VHS library for teachers houses about 600 tapes pertaining to aspects of each area taught. Many Interactive CD-ROMs have been purchased. Forty different magazines and newspapers are also in the library.
The library has three large TV sets mounted on the wall capable of broadcasting in-house TV and VNN, our student produced news broadcast. Local and national TV links are accessible through the kind donation of Comcast Cable. A coin-operated copy machine is available for students.
The Library has its own security system. All material has been bar-coded for security as well as for linking to the networked Follett Library System.
The Media Specialist, Mrs. Lillian Newman, is certified in Library Science by the state of Florida and is a member of ALA and ASCD.
