House at Bishop Verot

The Mission of House

The House System at Bishop Verot is built on community, connection, and care. Once a week, students step away from academic pressures to engage in fun, meaningful activities with their peers—giving them space to recharge, reset, and simply enjoy being together.
House is more than just a break in the week. It’s a powerful support system that strengthens mental health, builds lasting bonds between students and faculty, and fosters a sense of belonging across grade levels. Most importantly, it helps shape students into compassionate, confident leaders who are ready to make an impact beyond our walls.
Why We Do This
Today’s teens are facing unprecedented challenges, and the data makes it clear:

39% of teens have felt sad or hopeless in just the past week
27% of teen girls have seriously considered suicide
40% of teens say they feel disconnected from their school
Times are changing—and so are the needs of our students. It’s more important than ever to build real relationships, foster a sense of belonging, and create space where students feel connected, known, and supported. That’s where the House System comes in.
Meeting twice a week, House provides consistent opportunities for students to step outside their routines, grow in leadership, and have fun with their peers in a low-pressure, uplifting environment. It’s more than just a break—it’s a way to strengthen our school culture from the inside out.
When students feel seen, supported, and valued, everything changes.

What House Looks Like
House meets twice a week for just over 30 minutes each time—but in that short window, something special happens. At the bell, students head to their community meeting space for announcements while our Teacher Mentors and Senior House Leaders prepare for the day’s activities.
From there, students transition into their House classrooms, where the real fun begins. Some days bring team-building games, group challenges, or outdoor activities. Other days might mean a themed party, a leadership workshop, or even taking over the gym or football field. Every session is designed to build connection, boost morale, and create memories that last.
No two House days are exactly alike—but every one is rooted in community, creativity, and the joy of being together.
